The Premier League’s leading goalscorer is doubtful for Wednesday’s top-of-table showdown between Arsenal and Man City.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said Erling Haaland may not be ready to face Arsenal on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old striker suffered a knock to his leg in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa. The injury forced him off at half-time. City will carefully monitor his recovery before deciding whether he can visit the Emirates this week.
“Erling has a kick, and we will see in the next days how he will do,” Guardiola said in a press conference after Sunday’s match.
“At half-time, I spoke with the doctors. They said maybe don’t take risks at 3-0 up, and I agree with the doctors. Maybe if it was more tight, then I don’t do it.
“I think it is not injured, but tomorrow [Monday] we will see. Maybe [he can play] Wednesday. But if there are some risks, he will not play.”
Haaland has scored 25 goals in 21 league games for City this season.
The Citizens will hope their star striker is available for a decisive match in north London. With Arsenal dropping points against Brentford at the weekend, a victory on Wednesday would move Guardiola’s side to the top of the standings.
