The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has struggled for minutes under Erik ten Hag this season.
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Cristiano Ronaldo is being treated unfairly by Erik ten Hag.
The Dutch manager has omitted Ronaldo from his starting lineup since arriving at Old Trafford this summer.
The 37-year-old has started only four games for the Red Devils this season, three of which being in the Europa League.
However, Scholes believes the European competition will hardly satisfy Ronaldo’s motivation to reclaim his key role at United.
Speaking as a pundit on BT Sport, the former Man Utd midfielder said: “It’s almost more disrespectful playing him on a Thursday night in the Europa League. This man is a world superstar.
“I am not saying at 37 he should be starting all games – and the big games especially. But this is a competition that is hard to get yourself motivated for.
“I don’t like saying that, but it’s true when you are a big player at a big club like this and he has to change his mentality now.”
Ronaldo scored his first league goal of the season in United’s 2-1 win over Everton last week. Let’s see if Ten Hag will include CR7 in his starting lineup for United’s upcoming game against Newcastle.
