Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deemed Romelu Lukaku surplus to requirements and Manchester United were more than happy to sell him for £73 million.

Antonio Conte’s San Siro revolution has Romelu Lukaku at its epicenter. The Belgian international has shouldered the goalscoring burden since the departure of Mauro Icardi.

Lukaku mananged 34 goals in his first year with Inter, equalling Ronaldo Nazzario’s record with the club. He was sensational in both Serie A and the Europa League.

His form has raised questions about why Manchester United allowed him to leave. Paul Ince shed light on the topic.

The iconic frontman stated his belief that Lukaku would not have managed a similar haul with Solsjaer. Afterall, at Old Trafford Lukaku was a lumbering giant with a poor first control.

However, he admits the former Chelsea forward has worked on his physical fitness and it has worked to his benefit. This form begs the question why a prolific forward was allowed to leave the Theatre of Dreams.

“No I don’t think he would be [scoring that amount of goals for United],” Daily Mail quoted Ince.

“He’s with a different manager, I think what [Antonio] Conte’s got out of him is a lot more than what [Jose] Mourinho or Ole got out of him at Manchester United.

“He looks fitter, he looks stronger, he looks at it.

“Has it benefited Man United? I don’t think so, because they still need a man, if you go back to the game against Sevilla where they couldn’t score, they need someone to put the ball in the back of the net.

“When you see Lukaku do that, you start thinking why did we let him go?”
