Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford revealed his expectations from his team ahead of the ending phase of the Premier League.
Patrick Bamford has certain expectations from his side Leeds United in the Premier League. The Whites showed incredible determination to make a comeback last season in the top-flight from the Championship after 16 long years.
Now, after playing 29 matches, Marcelo Bielsa’s team is on the 11th spot in the league having won 12, drawn three and lost 14. Bamford and co. will take pride in some of their results with the top six clubs, including a win over Leicester City and draws against Chelsea and Manchester City.
However, it will take more than that for the club to move to the top ten by the end of the season as per the striker. “In one-off games, we have played against the top teams and top-four teams and we have beat some of them,” Bamford told The Official Leeds United Podcast.
“It’s kind of wrong to say that because we have beat them we could definitely get the top four but if we got a bit more consistent I think that the top ten should be a minimum. ‘With the way that we play and if we shore up a little bit and do get that consistency then there’s no reason why not.”
“The reason why the defence sometimes gets opened up is because of what we do at the top of the field because of the way we play,” Bamford added. “If we are late to a press or we are not quite on it or we are not aggressive enough it puts everyone a little bit out of time and out of position and that’s when you see teams kind of cut through us some times.”
“So I don’t think it’s necessarily an issue with the defence. I think that actually, all of the back four or back five with Illan [Meslier] have been brilliant when they have played. It’s just that as a team we are sometimes a little bit off it.”
