Maldini could be the next high-profile director to join a Saudi Pro club.
The future of Paolo Maldini, the former technical director of AC Milan, might be taking an unexpected turn towards Saudi Arabia.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Maldini is seriously considering an offer from Al-Ittihad, a Saudi Arabian club that recently recruited former Real Madrid star Karim Benzema.
Maldini, who bid farewell to his role at Milan last summer, is currently on the lookout for a new opportunity, and the chance to become a director at Al-Ittihad appears to have caught his attention.
Al-Ittihad recently parted ways with their coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, who had a successful track record in Europe, including spells at Porto, Wolverhampton, and a brief, albeit tumultuous, tenure at Tottenham.
At present, Al-Ittihad sits in fifth place in the Saudi league, trailing the league leaders by 11 points and missing out on qualifying positions for the Asian Champions League.
If Maldini accepts the offer, it will mark his first venture into football management outside of AC Milan, where he held various administrative positions on two separate occasions.
Last month, a report from Bild claimed that Oliver Kahn is also considering a move to Saudi Arabia after getting sacked by Bayern Munich. It seems that Saudi Pro clubs have started to recruit directors with European experience as part of their ambitious plans to become a football powerhouse in the Middle East.
