The Mesut Ozil saga continues as the midfielder sustained from yet another setback during Fenerbahce’s latest Super Lig fixture.

We all know the struggle Mesut Ozil had to go through to finally make himself available on the field once again. The Ex-Germany star left Arsenal after he was denied the opportunity to play for the team across different competitions. Consequently, the playmaker sought to make way to one of his favourite clubs, Fenerbahce in Turkey. With all this in mind, it seemed likely that Ozil would require some time to get back to his best self after nine long months without football.

However, even after signing a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Turkish outfit, the Ex-Arsenal man was unable to see minutes at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium. As of now, Ozil has racked seven games for Fenerbahce in all competitions but has no goals or assists to his name. And during a recent clash against Antalyaspor, the 32-year-old suffered from a setback yet again.

What exactly happened?

Ozil was helped get off the field on a stretcher during the second half of the league game on Thursday. The veteran awkwardly landed on his ankle after a tackle from the opposition striker Fredy. Frustrations are building for the midfielder as he was handed his fourth consecutive start for his new club, but he could not continue to play. Unfortunately for Fenerbahce, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

According to Goal, Ozil has endured partial damages to his inner and outer lateral ankle ligaments. And he will see a period of 4-6 weeks without any action on the pitch. Furthermore, Mesut will miss out on Fenerbahce’s clash against Konyaspor on Monday. Along with that, he will be unavailable for Super Lig matches versus Genclerbirligi and arch-rivals Besiktas during this month.
