Arsenal star, Mesut Özil may have just won the supporters back with the incredible gesture he had this week. Everyone will love him after this.

It’s safe to say that Arsenal fans weren’t too keen on keeping Mesut Özil for one more minute because he didn’t deserve to remain at the club. But what he just did might’ve bought him a few more years at the Gunners and he might not even have to play anymore.

We don’t know if he did it with an ulterior motive but it was a brilliant move nonetheless. To those who don’t know, Gunnersaurus is the mythical mascot at Arsenal, a green dinosaur who has been part of the club’s biggest moments. Behind the costume there’s Jerry Quy, who’s been doing this job for 27 years and everybody loved him.

The Gunners decided to sack him due to the pandemic crisis and the club’s supporters were extremely sad to hear the news. But along came a hero to save the day and win back the supporters for himself.

Özil’s heartfelt message to Gunnersaurus.

In an unexpected turn of events, footballer Mesut Özil wrote a message about the mascot. He decided to cover Jerry Quy’s wages in order to help him keep his job until the pandemic is over and everything returns back to normal. That or for as long as Arsenal decides to keep Özil as a player.

We gotta say, kudos to Özil for winning football internet today. Everybody considers this gesture as a way back into the Arsenal supporters’ good graces. All the player needs is to get some minutes back and start playing football again.

Özil wrote the following message on his social media accounts: “I was so sad that Jerry Quy aka our famous and loyal mascot Gunnersaurus and integral part of our club was being made redundant after 27 years. “As such, I’m offering to reimburse Arsenal with the full salary of our big green guy as long as I will be an Arsenal player so Jerry can continue his job that he loves so much.”
