Players are now starting to give their honest opinion on the breakaway Super League, and the former Arsenal midfielder is the latest one to speak up.

Mesut Ozil has expressed his opposition towards the European Super League as heavy backlash over the newly-formed competition continues.

A host of popular football figures have voiced their objection to the new league since it was officially announced on Sunday night.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville labelled it as a “criminal act” while another Red Devils icon Rio Ferdinand called the proposal “a war on football.”

Liverpool great Jamie Carragher felt his former club’s involvement in the competition is a “betrayal of heritage” while legendary Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is of the view that the idea is a “big threat for the Premier League”.

Another former Arsenal figure, who won three FA Cup trophies during his nine-year stint at the Emirates – has now joined those condemning the Super League.

Ozil wrote in a Twitter post: “Kids grow up dreaming to win the World Cup and the Champions League – not any Super League.

“The enjoyment of big games is that they only happen once or twice a year, not every week. Really hard to understand for all football fans out there…”
