A certain Frenchman contemplated quitting Camp Nou during the previous transfer window only to make a quick U-turn on his decision.
FC Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti has entered his fifth season with the club but he is yet to live up to his expectations.
Recurring fitness issues and poor form are the primary reasons why the center-back has struggled to cement his place in the Barca line-up.
Currently sidelined through injury, the Frenchman is yet to play a single minute in the 2020/21 season.
A product of the Olympique Lyon youth academy, he spent 14 years at the club before signing for the Spanish side for a reported €25 million fee.
The 26-year old admits he was tempted to reunite with his former side while the summer transfer market was still open. However, he decided against acting on his temptation with a possible turnaround in mind.
“Everything was possible during the transfer window. Lyon is my club and my city. They gave me the opportunity to be seen,” Umtiti told Canal +.
“There were discussions, but it was quick, nothing concrete. I had to be able to speak with a club.
“I’ll be honest: Barcelona is Barcelona. I don’t want to leave Barcelona and even less like that.”
