Victor Osimhen showed a glimpse of what is to come for Napoli. He bagged a hat-trick within eight minutes in their friendly match victory.
Victor Osimhen gave a good account of himself after starting on a decent note for Napoli.
Earlier this month, the Nigerian international joined the Serie A side in a €50m deal that could rise further.
Osimhen was not in Italy as at the time of his announcement and only arrived in the country a week ago.
Gennaro Gattuso has backed the 21-year-old to excel for Napoli and he would have loved what he saw.
The Partenopei officially began their pre-season preparations with a mini-tournament against local teams Castel di Sangro and L’Aquila. A brief of the club’s outing was detailed in a report on their website.
Gattuso deployed a 4-3-3 formation in a mix-up team against Castedl di Sangro. It was an easy 11-0 win for Napoli. Politano bagged a hat-trick and there were braces for Arkadiusz Milik and Amin Younes. Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Gianluca Gaetano added more before Koulibaly rounded things up.
Osimhen was part of the second team that featured against L’Aquila. It was a much stronger looking lineup from Gattuso that saw him tweak his side’s earlier tactics.
It took only 59 seconds for the Nigerian to break the deadlock. Three minutes later, he scored his second and by the eighth minute, his hat-trick was complete.
Asides his hat-trick, Osimhen also laid down two assists on the evening.
It is only a friendly so nothing really to mull over. But if anything at all, the Nigerian has started his account in Italy on a good note.
Gattuso would be hoping Osimhen can keep his goal-scoring boots on when the new Serie A season resumes on September 19.
