After last Sunday’s incendiary statements about Kylian Mbappe, we are here to tell you Al-Khelaifi can’t pull the same stunt at PSG.

Yesterday, Nasser Al-Khelaifi stated that Kylian Mbappe wasn’t going to leave PSG for free. He was that specific about one of the hottest topics of the summer during an interview with L’Equipe. If he truly believed his greatest asset isn’t leaving, he would’ve chosen his words a little better. But as things stand right now, Mbappe is currently on the fence about his future in the French capital. There’s not doubt he wants to play for Real Madrid next season and he wants a new challenge.

Playing in the Ligue 1 for these many years has proven Mbappe is far greater than the entire tournament. It is time for him to take the next step in his professional career in spite of Al-Khelaifi’s intentions. The man gets angry every time they ask him about Mbappe because he knows he can’t do anything to stop him from leaving. As long as Kylian keeps his intentions of not signing a new contract, he can virtually go anywhere he wants. But the problem here is the same policy Nasser has used since he took control of PSG as the club’s chairman.

Mbappe is not Silva or Rabiot.

Where Nasser Al-Khelaifi fails to understand the situation is in the fact that Kylian Mbappe is not Thiago Silva or Adrien Rabiot. To those who don’t remember, there were times in which both of these players attempted to leave the club. What did Nasser do? He blocked their playing time for months and made them irrelevant for a short period of time. Only Rabiot managed to leave PSG after his contract ended but Silva did sign a new agreement amid all the pressure.

Al-Khelaifi is trying the same tactic right now with the young forward but it won’t work. Mbappe is dead set on playing for one of the most prestigious clubs in the world and nothing will stop him from this target. In fact, he is still convinced there is nothing Nasser can do to prevent that. Although the summer might be long for the player, his will should prevail in the end. Al-Khelaifi needs to understand that this new form of slavery is wrong at every level. He can’t just say who can leave his club or who stays.
