One of the most exciting times in the football season doesn’t necessarily involve playing action at all.

The summer transfer window is usually one of the most riveting periods of action while we wait for the new season to begin. English Premier League fans, as well as soccer lines experts all around cautiously wait for any and every move all of the top tier EPL teams make, while looking towards making a splash in the upcoming season.

While there are wish lists for every team, the difference between the players a team wants and the players a team needs can become quite different. With this said, here is our list of problems that each of the EPL’s top teams should address in this transfer window.

Chelsea

Let’s start in London and talk about Chelsea FC. The reigning UCL Champions have been awfully quiet through this summer transfer window, something that’s not usually normal of them, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t planning some grand moves. This club looks dominant in all parts of the field, with a young core of players all dominating the team’s roster. After seeing both attacker Olivier Giroud and center-back Fiyako Tomori both leave for AC Milan, it’s assumed that Chelsea should be looking at landing an attacker and another defender.

For the attacking part, Roman Abramovich’s side has not been shy from pursuing Norway and Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland. While landing Haaland could make Chelsea go through a massive offering which could include German Timo Werner as part of the deal, if they land Haaland they will have one of the best strikers in the world for years to come. On the defensive side, Chelsea is looking at Sevilla’s French center-back Jules Kounde as their priority option, even with the inclusion of Kurt Zouma as part of the deal to bring down the price.

Liverpool

Once Liverpool finally got the taste of EPL title success once again, they’ve been on a constant path of trying to get back to the top of the league, which is why this transfer window could become a very important one for any and all efforts the “Reds” want to do in order to make it back to the top of the league. While many other teams are looking to bring in players, Liverpool needs to address and find quick resolutions to the contract statuses of several of their most important players, including Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Virgil Van Dijk amongst others.

Team captain Jordan Henderson is another key player that might be looking for a renewal of his contract, but if that’s not the case both French side PSG and the reigning Spanish champions Atlético de Madrid would be ready to welcome Henderson into their clubs. If that was to be the case, Liverpool would be seriously looking at signing Atlético’s attacking midfielder Saul Niguez who is also being pursued by Barcelona and Manchester United.

Manchester City

What could the reigning Premier League and Carabao Cup winners need for this upcoming season? Well, for Pep Guardiola’s team next season is all about one thing in particular, finally being able to win the UEFA Champions League tournament. They made it to their first finals appearance last season, and while they came in as overwhelming favorites to take the crown, a young and hungrier Chelsea squad left Lisbon with the UCL title. So this season, while knowing and understanding that they are once again favorites for the EPL crown, their focus will be on winning the UCL trophy for the first time in their history.

So what do they need? Simple. After landing Aston Villa all-star Jack Grealish, their focus now relies on landing Tottenham and England’s main attacker, Harry Kane. Kane, who has shown over and over again a willingness to go play for Guardiola’s team would be the perfect complement to an already dominant attacking core with the likes of De Bruyne, Gundogan, Foden, Sterling and now Grealish all ready for action. If Man City are able to finally land Kane there is really no reason as to why they shouldn’t be able to win the UCL this upcoming season.

Manchester United

By the looks of the moves that Manchester United has been doing through this transfer window, it appears as if the “Red Devils” are finally ready to come back swinging in the title scene of the Premier League. After landing English young attacking star Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund as well as defender Raphael Varane, the table is set for at least a couple more high-profile signings to bring the team back to its former glory and fighting shape.

While still gunning after England full-back Kieran Trippier who has shined at Atlético de Madrid for the past couple of seasons and who is definitely up to the idea of returning to England and playing for Man United, players like Saul Niguez, Leon Goretzka and Eduardo Camavinga have all been heavily linked with United. If by any chance Paul Pogba was to leave, as PSG has shown strong interest for him, landing a player of Camavinga’s age and skills would be the perfect accompaniment for Bruno Fernandes.
