The Ajax shot-stopper has been linked with a move to England as of late but a compatriot of his urges him to consider relocating to Spain.

Andre Onana should join Real Madrid or FC Barcelona instead of Arsenal, according to Wesley Sneijder as he believes the latter have “slipped in recent years”.

Arsenal used to a Premier League and European powerhouse but those days are now in the past. The Gunners, who once went unbeaten the entire season in the English top-flight, suffered 13 defeats in the league last time out.

Mikel Arteta’s side will not play European football next season, having finished eighth in the league standings in the previous one.

“I expect him to leave. I think he is a great goalkeeper. European top? Yes, certainly,” Sneijder told of Onana Voetbal International Live.

“I’d rather not see him at Arsenal. It’s a fantastic club, but it has slipped in recent years. I’d rather see him play at Real Madrid or FC Barcelona.”

Onana is currently serving a suspension for a doping violation. He was initially banned for 12 months by UEFA in February but his sentence was recently reduced to nine months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

“I think it’s nonsense, If you can reduce such a sentence by three months, why not by six months?” Sneijder added.
