Edinson Cavani is yet to hit full gear since he joined Manchester United from PSG over the summer. Ole Solskjaer has his say on that.
Edinson Cavani was one of the four players who joined the Red Devils on deadline day last month.
The Uruguayan does have a reputation as one of the most prolific marksmen in Europe. However, fitness issues have seen the forward struggle over recent seasons.
Prior to his move to United, questions about his fitness was up in the air once again. All the more this time given the physical nature of the Premier League coupled with his lack of football since March.
As expected, Cavani has been eased in slowly at Old Trafford and has only been limited to substitute appearances so far. Manchester United take on Basaksehir in the Champions League on Tuesday night and Ole Solskjaer addressed the issue of the Uruguayan’s fitness.
“He’s generally a fit man anyway and he’s getting his sharpness in training and he’s got some substitute appearances now.” he told the club’s website.
“We haven’t managed to get him long enough yet to make a big impact but he’s looking sharper and sharper in training so it won’t be long.”
Ole also says his side have already put the Arsenal defeat past them and are aiming for wins in their next games.
“It’s always important to bounce back and respond after a disappointing day. We’ve had some time to reflect over this [the Arsenal defeat] now and it’s gone, and we’ve got to get a performance in Istanbul and hopefully we’ll get three points and then we go to Everton. Of course we’ve not been helped by the schedule but it’s another challenge.”
The game tonight could represent a good chance for Cavani to get his first Champions League start for Manchester United. It’s left to Ole to decide.
