Ahead of Man United’s upcoming Champions League match, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke about the pressure he has to live with on a daily basis.

With the incredible roster Man United put together this season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has the added pressure of trying to win at least one major trophy. At the start of a new season, the Norwegian manager has been lacking in several aspects of the game. His decision-making hasn’t been up to the challenge and results haven’t gone his way thus far. But Solskjaer is very aware of the responsibility that comes with coaching one of the most powerful clubs in the world.

He was one of the players at Manchester United who became a legend during his tenure under Sir Alex Ferguson. Rather than shying away from the challenge, Ole embraces this test that professional life is offering him. Tomorrow, the Red Devils get a chance for revenge against Villarreal. We mustn’t forget that the ‘Yellow Submarine’ was the club that defeated United in last season’s Europa League final. The game is taking place at Old Trafford on Wednesday and United is facing a highly competitive Villarreal squad.

Ole responds to criticism about his latest results.

As per The Guardian, this is what Solskjaer said: “The pressure is a privilege. To work in this environment, you have to embrace that pressure. If he says we have to win a trophy – well, yes I’ve been backed [and] the backing I have got says to me we are sticking to our plan, but we are in a results business. Expectations have improved with our signings. We are here to win, I am here to win – don’t think twice about that. Gary knows that. We have an obligation at this club to win, and an obligation to win here in a certain style.

“Sometimes that is risky and you lose one or two [games], but we’ll get there – I’m confident we’ll get there with a consistency in results and hopefully in April and May we’ll be competing for trophies. My focus is always on winning the next game short term, and long term on squad building, to keep improving, winning. So my focus is winning this game and getting back on track as we didn’t start well enough [in the competition]. Then we focus on the league again from Thursday morning, a position where we are still up there [a point behind the leaders, Liverpool].”
