Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given the latest update as to why Edinson Cavani missed out on the squad to face Manchester City.
Edinson Cavani was expected to lead the line against Manchester City but was not even able to make the squad list. Manchester United boss Ole Solskjaer has explained why that happened.
The Uruguayan forward was a notable omission from the starting lineup against the Citizens, with Anthony Martial replacing him up front.
Having missed four games due to injury, Cavani had returned to the United starting lineup for Wednesday’s 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace.
Speaking to club media ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby, Ole gave an update on Cavani: “He had to come off [in] training, he didn’t feel right unfortunately.”
“But Anto is available and that’s good news.”
Still on Cavani, Ole added: “He’s got a niggle again unfortunately. He had to come off training yesterday. We had to make a team without him.”
It remains to be seen whether the forward will be fit enough to feature for the Red Devils in their Europa League meeting with AC Milan on Thursday.
Cavani has been fairly impressive for United this season, scoring seven goals across 25 appearances in all competitions.
