The Wanderers have signed up a replacement for their injured star striker on a loan agreement until the end of the season.
Real Sociedad forward Willian Jose has joined Wolves on loan until the end of the campaign, with a buy option included as part of the deal.
Subject to a work permit and international clearance, the Brazilian will arrive in the West Midlands as the club’s new No.12. He will be expected to provide cover for injured star striker Raul Jimenez, who remains sidelined with a fractured skull.
18-year-old club-record signing Fabio Silva has stepped up in the attack in Jimenez’s absence since November. However, Jose’s prolific record and experience will prove a welcome asset for Nuno Espirito Santo.
“Wolves have completed the loan signing of Brazilian striker Willian Jose from Real Sociedad, subject to a work permit and international clearance,” the club confirmed in a brief statement on Saturday morning.
Jose had spent the last four-and-a-half-years at Real Sociedad, scoring an impressive 62 goals in 170 appearances. He was also the club’s top-scorer last season on 11 goals in 37 LaLiga appearances.
The 29-year-old’s form dwindled this season, though. He found the back of the net three times in 21 appearances across all competitions but scored a brace in his final outing for La Real in a 2-0 Copa del Rey win over Cordoba on January 20.
Jose will hope to be ready in time to make his debut away to Chelsea on Wednesday or for the trip to Crystal Palace next weekend.
