The Carabao Cup match between Tottenham and Leyton Orient has been postponed after the League Two team players test positive for COVID.

The Carabao Cup was supposed to continue today between Tottenham Hotspur and Leyton Orient but it has been postponed. Reports from Sky Sports confirm that several players from the League Two squad have tested positive for COVID-9.

No further information has been shared by either side about the infected players. We have no idea if any Tottenham Hotspur players were exposed to the Leyton footballers or if anybody else has tested positive. This latest development is a direct consequence of the League Two refusing to test their players under mandatory terms on a weekly basis.

Several players from Leyton Orient testing positive is arguably the biggest concern they had. This leaves the Premier League with a decision to make about the Cup games for the near future while the pandemic is ongoing.

The calendar is another issue.

Due to the tight calendar in English football, we might get to the point where the EFL might sanction Leyton Orient for this incident. The next round in the Carabao Cup is next week and there’s simply no time for today’s match to take place. Given that the Spurs weren’t the club where the players tested positive, it’s only fair that Leyton gets the sanction.

There is still no resolution but we can expect it by the end of this week. Meanwhile, the EFL released the following statement: “Discussions are ongoing between the relevant stakeholders in regards to the implications of the decision not to play tonight’s game and a further update will be provided in due course.

“Leyton Orient, the EFL, and the relevant authorities are conducting a thorough review of the club’s Covid-19 secure procedures with the view to reopening the stadium and training ground as soon as possible.”
