The highly-rated defender is the latest addition to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad, becoming Spurs’ fourth signing of the summer.

Tottenham have officially confirmed the signing of Cristian Romero from Atalanta.

Romero has committed to a five-year contract at Tottenham, who paid a reported €50 million – a figure that could rise by further €5m depending on his performances – for the services of the center-back.

The Argentina international rose to prominence last season after joining Atalanta on a two-year loan deal from Juventus, with La Dea exercising their €16 million buy option to sign him permanently right before selling him to Spurs for a huge profit.

A part of the lengthy official statement on the club’s website read: “We are delighted to announce the signing of Cristian Romero from Atalanta.

“Cristian will wear the number four shirt.

“Romero, 23, joins having been named as ‘Best Defender’ in the Serie A last season, with his performances helping Atalanta to third-successive third place league finish.”

“Having represented Argentina at Under-20 level, Cristian made his senior debut in a World Cup qualifier against Chile on 3 June, 2021 and has gone on to collect five caps in total. He scored just 130 seconds into his second appearance against Colombia on 8 June.”
