Tottenham have announced the signing of Joe Hart on a free transfer with the goalkeeper committing to a two-year contract.
After failing to establish himself as the team’s first-choice, Joe Hart severed ties with Burnley at the end of June 2020.
Hart made just three appearances for the Clarets in 2019/20, starting one match in the Carabao Cup and two in the FA Cup, and remained a second-fiddle to Nick Pope.
The 33-year old was has been a free agent since then, but now has been picked up by Tottenham.
He is expected to compete with Paulo Gazzaniga for Hugo Lloris’ spot following the departure of Michel Vorm.
Spurs have struggled to maintain a balance between homegrown and overseas players in recent seasons, and the former England No.1 will boost the homegrown quota in Jose Mourinho’s squad.
A statement on the official club website read: “We are delighted to announce the signing of Joe Hart on a contract until 2022.
“The 33-year-old goalkeeper, who left Burnley at the end of the 2019/20 season, won two Premier League titles, two League Cups and an FA Cup with Manchester City, having joined the Premier League side from Shrewsbury Town in 2006.
“On the international stage, Hart has won 75 caps for England and represented the Three Lions at one World Cup and two European Championships.”
Hart becomes the club’s second signing of the summer, with Spurs having confirmed the transfer of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton.
