As Juventus gets ready to face Genoa in Coppa Italia tonight, we give you the reasons Cristiano Ronaldo will start the game on the bench.

Cristiano Ronaldo had a chance to become the world’s highest goal scorer in history for Juventus tonight. However, we will have to wait a little longer during tonight’s Coppa Italia game against Genoa. Andrea Pirlo doesn’t consider this game to be as important as next Sunday’s crucial Serie A match against Inter Milan. In a clear attempt to save Cristiano’s energy for that game. The gaffer decided to leave him on the bench for tonight’s match.

In his place, Juventus will use young Kulusevskyi and Morata on the attack to attempt a victory in this cup tournament. Pirlo considers this game is ideal to use several of the academy players who have been waiting for their opportunity to shine. Amongst the names in the starting eleven are Wesley, Portanova, and Dragusin. The rest of the line-up is formed by experienced Juventus players.

Ronaldo’s record will have to wait.

It was just last weekend when Cristiano Ronaldo reached Josef Bican’s all-time record of 759 goals scored throughout his career. Today was a great opportunity to surpass this record but Ronaldo might have to wait a little longer. However, the Portuguese star is still on the bench and might get a few minutes in the second half if Genoa makes things difficult for Juventus.

If Cristiano doesn’t play a single minute tonight, his chance to break that record will come on Sunday. There’s no better chance to reach this historic milestone than against Inter Milan in a game against a direct title contender for this season’s Serie A trophy. But let’s hope he can at least get a few minutes to play tonight. We always want to see Ronaldo play, regardless of the tournament or the rival.
