Official: Real Madrid announce signing Alaba

A player with one of the most illustrious CVs in world football has completed a move to the Spanish capital on a free transfer.

Real Madrid have confirmed signing David Alaba on five-year contract until 2026.

Alaba joins Real Madrid following the expiration of his contract at Bayern Munich. He had a 13-year-long and trophy-laden spell at Bayern of winning 28 major honors including 10 successive Bundesliga titles and two Champions League trophies.

The Austria international, who publicized his decision to embark on a new journey back in February, will reportedly earn €12.5 million net annually at Santiago Bernabeu.

The 28-year-old’s will look to oust either Sergio Ramos or Raphael Varane in the Real Madrid backline, with both the club’s first-choice center-backs’ future up in the air. His versatility will also come in handy in making a place for himself in the Los Blancos line-up, with Alaba capable of operating at left-back, as well as in midfield, while he has also played on the left wing for his country.

An official statement on the club website read: “Real Madrid C. F. has reached an agreement with David Alaba for the player to join the club for the next five seasons.

“David Alaba will be unveiled as a new Real Madrid player after the end of the 2021 European Championship.”
