PSV have confirmed the signing of German World Cup winner and ex-Borussia Dortmund star Mario Gotze on a two-year deal.
Ex-Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund star Mario Gotze has joined PSV on a two-year contract.
The 28-year-old joined on a free transfer after his second stint with Dortmund ended with the conclusion of the 2019/20 season.
Last season, Gotze failed to knock down a first-team regular berth with injuries pushing him in and out of the squad. He made only 21 appearances under Lucien Favre last term.
When he was only 22, he scored the winning goal for Germany in the 2014 World Cup but injuries have derailed his career since then.
With a new move already secured, Gotze says he is ready for the next phase in his career.
“I had a lot of offers this summer but I am a man of feeling and make my own decisions,” Gotze told PSV’s official website.
“I feel I am ready for a very different challenge and I am confident that this should be a very comfortable transition for me.”
For the first time in his career, Gotze will play out of the Bundesliga having played for Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
βMario became interested after our head coach Roger Schmidt had gotten in touch with him,” said PSV Director of Football John de Jong.
“And in the end he proved to be the godsend we had hoped for. We are delighted he has signed a contract with PSV. We are very proud.
“He can play every position in the attacking and midfield area. And he has gained international experience and brings the quality we need.”
Concluding on his move, Gotze says he is pleased to have joined the Dutch giants after staying months without a club.
“I kept on training and got myself fit for the new adventure. I am looking forward to joining my new team-mates for full training and preparing myself for the upcoming fixtures,”
