Barcelona has released a statement stating the renewal of Pedri’s agreement at Camp Nou with a mindblowing release clause.
Pedri has agreed to a fresh contract with FC Barcelona which will see him at Camp Nou until the summer of 2026. Astonishingly, the 18-year-old new deal has a release clause of €1 billion.
Negotiations regarding Pedri’s prospect at the Catalan club were held on Wednesday with a potential deal on board. Now that deal has been concluded and Barcelona will enjoy this prodigy for the next five years.
Barcelona released a statement on their official website saying: “FC Barcelona and the player, Pedro Gonzalez ‘Pedri’, have agreed to a contract extension to 30 June 2026. The release clause is set at €1 billion.
“The new contract ties down the player from the Canary Islands for the rest of this season and a further four years.”
Barca introduced Pedri in the summer of 2020 and the young starlet rocked the grounds during his debut season. With four goals in 52 appearances, he also made his senior international start with Spain in March this year.
After gaining a fruitful place in Luis Enrique’s Euro 2020 squad, Pedri managed to snatch the Young Player of the Tournament award. He was also featured in the Olympic Games gold medal match in Tokyo, in which Spain lost 2-1 to Brazil.
With his rising talent, big suitors were attracted including German champions Bayern Munich. Although, Barcelona had no intentions of losing their prized asset, more so after Lionel Messi’s departure.
Now with fresh terms in hand, Pedri will stay for five years because of his hefty release clause which surpasses €1 billion (£846m/$1.16bn).
