The Guinean star has completed a surprise transfer to Werder Bremen ahead of the next season.
Werder Bremen has confirmed the signing of Naby Keita as a free agent.
Liverpool paid £50m to sign Keita from RB Leipzig in 2018. However, the Guinean star was not able to meet expectations at Anfield.
A few injury issues ended Keita’s hopes of securing a starting spot under Jurgen Klopp. The club eventually decided against offering him a contract extension this summer.
A move to Werder Bremen will see Keita return to the Bundesliga, where he established a reputation as one of European football’s most promising midfielders.
“I’m really excited for my new challenge here in Bremen. I was impressed by what the club told me about the setup here and Werder’s style of play,” Keita said after signing a three-year deal at the club.
“The coach gave me a really good feeling and showed how I can help the team. Werder is a special club and I know the Weserstadion from my time with Leipzig. This club and its philosophy will be a good match for me, so this is the right step for my career,” Keita said after joining his new club.
Keita will reportedly earn around €1.5 million a year with bonuses at Werder Bremen. Let’s see if the 28-year-old can revive his career at Weser Stadium next season.
