Manchester United and Roma have finally come to an agreement over a permanent move for defender Chris Smalling.
Chris Smalling is on his way to Roma once again, this time in a permanent move.
The English defender played his 2019-20 season on loan for the I Giallorossi, helping the Italian side grab a UEFA Europa League spot.
Smalling impressed for Roma and the Serie A side made frantic efforts to sign him up on a permanent contract.
Initial negotiations with Manchester United yielded no breakthrough and the deal even looked like it was off. Just few days ago, reports claimed Roma turned their attentions to Chelsea star Rudiger after ‘missing out’ on the United defender.
Finally, there is an agreement between Roma and Manchester United. Reliable sources in David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano have all confirmed details of the transfer.
AS Roma agreed to pay an amount of €15m plus €5m in performance-related add-ons in order to secure the services for Smalling.
Smalling has already made everyone know about his dream of playing for England in the upcoming EURO 2021 next summer. To do that, he would need to secure regular football at the very least.
That might not be achievable at Manchester United but he has a strong chance of doing that with Roma where he impressed last season.
