The Red Devils have confirmed the long-awaited news of their first signing of the 2023 summer transfer window.
Manchester United have announced the signing of Mason Mount. The midfielder joins the club from fellow Premier League side Chelsea on a five-year contract.
On Wednesday morning, Manchester United teased Mount’s arrival in an eight-second social media clip. It showed the player donning the new home kit for the first time. It didn’t show his face, but his surname can be seen on the back of his shirt toward the end of the video.
Mount will be Erik ten Hag’s first signing of the summer. The manager wants to strengthen his team following Manchester United’s qualification for the 2023/24 Champions League.
In their fourth attempt, Manchester United struck an agreement with Chelsea after three bids. The Red Devils will pay the Blues a reported £60 million transfer fee. They’ll pay £55 million upfront and a further £5 million in add-ons.
The news comes less than 24 hours after Mount released a farewell video message to Chelsea on social media.
The England international, who joined Chelsea at the age of six, thanked the supporters, the club’s academy, backroom staff, previous teammates, and the managers he worked under – Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel, and Graham Potter.
Mount managed 33 goals and 37 assists in 195 appearances for Chelsea. The 24-year-old made his first-team debut in 2019. He won the Champions League in 2021 with the Blues, as well as the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, Kai Havertz, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Mateo Kovacic have also left Chelsea this summer.
The excitement is mounting.
