Various Spanish clubs, along with Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk, were interested. But Kayky, who has caused quite the stir in his homeland with his skills, has chosen Pep Guardiola’s side.
It’s unclear yet whether the teenager will begin with the first team or start out with the U-23 squad, which recently won the Premier League 2 title. He may also spend a stint on loan at a sister club.
Who is Kayky?
The 17-year-old, whose full name is Kayky da Silva Chagas, has already built quite the reputation.
Despite only debuting for the Fluminense first-team this season, Kayky has already been compared to Neymar. He’s provided two goals and an assist in his nine appearances across all competitions so far.
Kayky has also impressed for the Brazilian national team at youth level and finished as the top scorer of the Brasileirao U-17 Championship in 2020 on 12 goals.
“Kayky is a player who stands out a lot for his technical quality, especially with regard to one-on-ones, and also in his quality in front of goal,” Fluminense’s U17 coach, Guilherme Torres, told Goal in February.
“He is also very intelligent, searches for empty spaces on the field and has a good ability to provide assists for his teammates.
“In addition, he has a winning, competitive mentality, which is important for a high-level player.
“His resilience has grown as he has matured, and he is learning how to deal with adversity.”
