Ahead of Inter Milan’s upcoming Champions League match against Monchengladbach, one of their stars just tested positive for Covid-19.
Inter Milan has more bad news coming from the Italian football front as one of their main stars just tested positive for Covid-19. This is the first time a footballer has this result just before an important match in a major competition.
Inter Milan is about to take on Borussia Monchengladbach as part of the UEFA Champions League’s Group B. As the protocol dictates, all clubs need to undergo CPR tests ahead of every single match. In the latest batch of results, Achraf Hakimi has tested positive for Covid-19 and won’t be part of the squad this evening at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.
The player is reported to remain in good health and without symptoms of the virus. However, he will have to isolate himself as a precautionary measure. Achraf is arguably one of Inter Milan’s most important players for Antonio Conte’s plans to conquer this season’s Serie A and other tournaments.
Inter announced it a few minutes ago.
Through their statement, Inter confirmed Achraf’s positive test but they didn’t offer any further details. We still don’t know if other players tested positive or if they will take any sort of measures to protect the Borussia Monchengladbach players. As far as we know, the match is still going to happen as it was planned. However, this doesn’t mean that we can’t get any new developments after UEFA makes an assessment of the situation.
Inter wrote the following statement on their official website: “Achraf Hakimi has tested positive in the latest round of UEFA checks (required by hygiene protocols) undertaken ahead of tonight’s game against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Inter full-back is totally asymptomatic and will now follow the procedure set out by the health protocol.”
