BVB have fallen much behind Bayern early in the Bundesliga title race after dropping eleven points in their last five matches.
Borussia Dortmund have sacked head coach Lucien Favre following a series of disappointing Bundesliga results.
The German side suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to newly-promoted Stuttgart on Saturday which proved to be the last straw for the club’s management regarding the Swiss manager.
It was BVB’s fourth league loss of the season, leaving them at fifth as well as five points behind leaders Bayern Munich in the title race.
Assistant coach Edin Terzic has been handed the team’s reigns on an interim basis until the end of the season.
“We are all grateful for Lucien Favre and his excellent work over the past two and a half years, where he and his team finished as runner-up twice,” club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told reporters, via BVB’s official website.
“Beyond any doubt, Lucien Favre is a great professional and person.”
Favre helped Die Schwarzgelben reach the Champions League knockout stages as Group F toppers.
The former Nice boss oversaw 110 games in his two-year stay at the Signal Iduna Park, leading Dortmund to DFL Super Cup success and two back-to-back second-place finishes in the Bundesliga.
