After a lackluster loan spell with Bayern Munich, Douglas Costa has sealed an emotional return home to his native Brazil.
Douglas Costa has returned to boyhood club Gremio on a free loan deal from Juventus.
The Bianconeri have confirmed an agreement with Gremio to loan Costa to the Brazilian club until June 2022, which is when his contract with the Italian club officially expires.
The return to Brazil, therefore, ends Costa’s decade-long spell in Europe. The winger has had a splendid career and leaves the continent with league titles won in Ukraine, Germany, and Italy.
“Douglas Costa has officially signed for Gremio on a free loan from Juventus,” read a statement from Juventus.
“The Brazilian winger, who joined Juventus back in 2017 and spent this past season on loan at Bayern Munich, will wear the shirt of the Porto Alegre outfit until 30 June 2022.”
Gremio, meanwhile, have declared plans to sign Costa on a free transfer until December 2023 if Juventus do not offer him a new deal.
The former Brazil international will now hope to rediscover his best form after a lackluster return to Bayern. He only made 20 appearances in all competitions in a spell marred by injuries and inconsistency.
Fellow Bayern loan star Tiago Dantas, meanwhile, has returned to parent club Benfica.
