Niklas Sule will join the Black and Yellows as a free agent next summer.

Borussia Dortmund have announced they will sign Niklas Sule on a free transfer after the end of his Bayern Munich contract next summer. The 26-year-old defender has signed a pre-contract agreement to join the Black and Yellows on a four-year deal.

“We’re delighted that we have managed to sign Niklas Sule, a Germany international, on a free transfer.” Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc said.

“We have tied the player down for four years.”

Having joined the Bavarians in 2017, Sule gradually developed himself as a regular starter at Allianz Arena. The defender has won a Champions League title, four Bundesliga trophies, and two DFB Pokals with the German giants.

Bayern coach Julian Negelsmann was reportedly keen on keeping Sule at the club. Bayern started their negotiations with the defender earlier this year. However, they decided against meeting his wage demand of €10m/year.

Dortmund’s upcoming sporting director Sebastian Kehl added: “Niklas has shown during the personal talks that he is really keen on Borussia Dortmund.

“He possesses a lot of experience, composure in his build-up play and the necessary physicality to take the next step with us from this summer onwards.”

Following their shocking 5-2 defeat against Leverkusen on Sunday, Dortmund went nine points behind their archrivals in Bundesliga. The Black and Yellows will face Union Berlin in their next league game on .
