Norwich City have completed their fifth signing of the summer by recruiting Chelsea youngster Gilmour on a loan deal.

Billy Gilmour has completed his season-long loan move to Norwich City for the entire 2021/22 campaign.

The Chelsea midfielder will spend the season in Carrow Road hoping for regular first-team football and the chance to help Championship winners Norwich stay in the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Gilmour, who was spotted at the club’s training ground alongside staff members on Thursday, becomes Norwich’s fifth summer signing.

“I’m very excited to be here. I can’t wait for the season ahead,” the 20-year-old told the club’s website.

“I’ve been looking forward to coming here, playing as much as possible and helping Norwich City compete in the Premier League.

“I spoke to the head coach [Daniel Farke] here. He called me and we had a nice talk about how he wants to play and how he sees me fitting in. Everything he said was what I want to do on the pitch, get the ball down and play nice football. He spoke really highly of his team and I wanted to come join here and help.

“There are very exciting times ahead, coming in for pre-season and seeing all the lads. Let’s get to it.”

Norwich announced the arrivals of Werder Bremen winger Milot Rashica and Southampton goalkeeper Angus Gunn last week and have turned the loans of Ben Gibson and Dimitris Giannoulis into permanent deals.

Gilmour, meanwhile, hopes to win favor under manager Daniel Farke. The 20-year-old has been a part of Chelsea since 2017 and remains highly rated in London. But as competition for a place in the Blues midfield is intense, he has opted for a loan to gain some valuable experience and game time.

The Scotland international has made 22 appearances at senior level for Chelsea in all competitions.
