Former Juventus star Blaise Matuidi has officially joined his friend David Beckham’s MLS franchise Inter Miami.
Less than 24 hours after confirming his departure from Juventus, Matuidi has put pen-to-paper on a deal to join David Beckham’s MLS franchise Inter Miami on a free transfer.
The Frenchman became acquainted with Beckham during the latter’s brief six-month spell at Paris Saint-Germain in 2013. They made 13 appearances alongside each other and won the Ligue 1 title.
Now seven years later, the pair will link up once again in the United States to establish Inter Miami as a force to be reckoned with in the MLS.
Beckham told the club’s website: “I couldn’t be happier to welcome my friend Blaise to Inter Miami. He is an exciting and gifted player and a great person.
“To have a World Cup winner of Blaise’s quality in our new team is such a proud moment – for us as owners and for our fans. For me personally, to have a former team-mate joining our club is very special and I can’t wait to welcome him and his beautiful family to South Florida.”

Inter Miami didn’t specify the length of Matuidi’s contract or go into details. But it’s understood Matuidi won’t be one of the team’s allowed ‘Designated Players’, which is a term used for players with salaries exceeding the team cap.
The American outfit allegedly used Targeted Allocation Money (TAM), which are funds provided by the MLS itself to provide teams with players that can make an instant impact.
Should this be correct, Inter Miami will have one Designated Player spot left.
Of course, Matuidi fits the bill as someone capable of an immediate impact. The midfielder may be 33 now, but he’s still near the top of his game and remained imperative for Juventus until his last day.
The World Cup winner made 133 appearances for the Bianconeri and won three Serie A title among his five major honors.
