New arrivals in Barcelona’s attacking line have convinced Trincao to spend another season on loan.

Barcelona have confirmed Francisco Trincao will join Sporting Lisbon on a loan deal ahead of the next season.

Following an underwhelming spell at Wolverhampton last season, the 22-year-old joins the Portuguese side on a one-year loan deal.

An official statement from Barcelona reads: “FC Barcelona and Sporting Clube de Portugal have reached an agreement on the loan of Francisco Trincão until 30 June 2023.

“The deal includes the option to purchase the player when the loan period expires.”

Trincao joined the Catalans from SC Braga in 2020. He went on to make 42 senior appearances at Cam Nou during his first year at the club, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

However, his lack of game at Barca convinced him to go on a loan move to Wolves last season. In his 30 appearances for the Premier League side, the Portuguese star scored three goals.

His performances did not convince Wolves to push for a permanent transfer. On the other hand, his chances of getting game time at Barcelona don’t look great.

The Catalans have added the likes of Ferran Torres and Raphinha to their squad, building a new attacking unit under Xavi.

Let’s see if a reunion with his former boss Ruben Amorim at Sporting CP, would see Trincao regain his best form at the Portuguese side.
