FC Barcelona just confirmed fears of a key defender who suffered a fresh injury setback during the previous match against Juventus.

FC Barcelona keeps getting players injured in the start of a new season, a defender was confirmed out for a couple for next weekend. We are talking about Uruguay international, Ronald Araujo. The South American defender took Gerard Pique’s spot on the defense and responded with a fantastic performance against Juventus.

In fact, few analysts talk about the two key moments he had in the game. The Bianconeri got three goals disallowed due to multiple offsides and two of those were Araujo’s doing. TJ Sports analyzed how the defender moved the defensive line right in time twice when Alvaro Morata scored goals for Juventus.

The Blaugrana needed another defender to take a veteran Gerard Pique’s spot. They seemed to have found him after Araujo’s results but this is a major blow for Koeman’s squad. What happens now is unknown, they will have to wait for his recovery and use Pique in the meantime.

Barcelona reveals Araujo’s hamstring injury.

As we waited for tests to come back, FC Barcelona just confirmed the defender’s extent of the injury. A muscular problem that will take an indefinite time to heal. The club wrote the following statement on their official website.

“Tests on Friday have revealed that Ronald Araujo has a femoral biceps (hamstring) injury in his right leg. His availability will now depend on how the injury develops. Araujo was unable to complete the game at the Juventus Stadium. A match he started due to Gerard Pique being suspended after receiving a red card against Ferencváros.

“The Uruguayan was substituted at half-time by Sergio Busquets after sensing pain. Meaning Ronald Koeman had to move Frenkie de Jong back into the middle of defense alongside Clément Lenglet. It wasn’t an entirely new situation for the Dutchman. He’s played at center-back for Ajax and Holland in the past. Curiously, also underneath Koeman. In this first season as part of the senior team, Araujo has played four games. Two of them in La Liga and two in the Champions League.”
