The Catalan club have cut ties with a player who was unable to establish himself in the team despite being on their books for three years.
Jean-Clair Todibo has completed a permanent move from Barcelona to Nice, the Catalan club announced on Sunday.
Nice secured the signing of Todibo midway through the 2020/21 season on a six-month loan deal.
The Frenchman joined the Ligue 1 side hoping for things to change for better for him as his two previous loan spells were a non-success. He had spent the second half of 2019/20 at Schalke where he made just eight appearances and the first half of 2020/21 at Benfica where he failed to play even once.
Things did change for better as the 21-year-old quickly managed to earn manager Adrian Ursea’s trust and become a regular in the Nice starting XI.
The French side have now purchased him for an initial €8.5 million fee, which could rise rise up to €15.5 million in variables.
A press release by Nice confirming the transfer read: “OGC Nice and FC Barcelona have agreed terms for the permanent transfer of Jean-Clair Todibo!
“He said it right from the start: ‘In my mind, I will be at OGC Nice next season. And the one after that as well!’
“Following a six-month loan, where his performances impressed everyone, Jean-Clair Todibo (21-years-old) has officially signed for Les Aiglons, confirming his first words on the Cote d’Azur.
“Now he is officially back home, to continue his progression, both individually and with the team.”
