The Brazilian star will stay beyond his loan spell at the Villa Park.
Aston Villa have confirmed the permanent signing of Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona.
The Brazil international moved to Villa on a loan deal in January, displaying impressive form since his arrival. The Premier League club have now decided to keep the former Barcelona midfielder beyond his loan deal.
“This is a brilliant signing for Aston Villa,” Steven Gerrard told the club’s official website. “Phil is a model professional and his impact on the group has been very clear since he joined in January.
“With the way he conducts himself on and off the pitch, he’s also a valuable role model for our younger players who can only benefit from his experience.
“As we look to build towards next season, it is incredible to work at a club that executes its business so decisively and smoothly.”
Aston Villa have not disclosed the transfer fee for Coutinho’s permanent move. However, Barcelona have announced they have received €20 million for the transfer.
Coutinho has made 16 Premier League appearances for Villa, scoring four goals and providing three assists. Let’s see if the 29-year-old newly found form will earn him a spot in Brazil’s squad for the Qatar World Cup.
