German RB Leipzig has officially announced the signing of Red Bull Salzburg’s 20-year-old Hungarian star.

Arsenal’s hunt is officially over as RB Leipzig have completed the transfer of attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai. The transfer was reported yesterday by sports journalist Fabrizio Romano and was now confirmed by the Bundesliga side.

The creative wonderkid was desired by half of Europe, but Leipzig bagged the €25 million signing before the beginning of January’s winter market. Szoboszlai received a four and a half year contract until June 2025. He will wear the club’s number 17 shirt, once worn by Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich.

RB Leipzig’s management has reacted to the transfer deal, praising the Hungarian international and explaining what made the operation successful.

“With the signing of Dominik Szoboszlai we can strengthen our squad even more. With the transfer plus in the summer and reaching the round of 16 in the Champions League, we generated additional income in order to be able to carry out a transfer of this magnitude even in this financially difficult time,” said CEO Oliver Mintzlaff.

“We had very good discussions with Dominik and his advisor from the start and of course we are proud that he chose RB Leipzig – because he had several offers from top European clubs. That speaks for our path and our ambitions,” added sports director Markus Krosche.

The young midfielder will be available to face Dortmund at the Red Bull Arena on January 9, 2021.
