French giants Marseille have signed their second Arsenal player on a loan deal this month ahead of the 2020/21 campaign in Ligue 1.

Arsenal have confirmed William Saliba’s loan departure to Marseille for the 2020/21 season.

The 20-year-old will spend his third campaign out on loan in Ligue 1, having previously played for Saint-Etienne and Nice. He becomes the second Arsenal player to join Marseille on loan after Matteo Guendouzi.

Saliba, who is yet to make a first-team appearance at Arsenal since his €30 million transfer in 2019, returns to France hoping for more regular football.

“Together with William, we have decided it will be good for his continued development to spend another season on loan,” Arsenal’s technical director Edu told the club’s website.

“William joined us as an 18-year-old, and he is still only 20, so he is still developing all the time.

“William is a player with strong natural ability and next season has the potential to be really beneficial for him at Marseille, a good club. To play another season in Ligue 1 will be very important for his development.

“We will of course be keeping in close contact with William during the season and wish him all the best in France with Marseille.”

Arsenal, meanwhile, will face Scottish champions Rangers in a friendly on Saturday at Ibrox. The Gunners will then head out to Orlando for the Florida Cup. They’ll face Inter Milan on July 26 and either Everton or Colombian club Millonarios in the final or third-place playoff three days later.
