AC Milan have announced the signing of Diogo Dalot on a season-long loan from Manchester United, the club confirmed.
Diogo Dalot joined United from Porto in the summer of 2018 for around £19m but struggled to establish himself as a regular for the club.
He played 90 minutes in his side’s 3-0 League Cup victory over Brighton, but that was his only appearance this season.
Dalot hasn’t been in the squad for any of their Premier League matches this season. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the club’s first-choice option with Timothy Fosu-Mensah seemingly preferred as a backup.
United have been open to loan offers in order for the 21-year-old to continue his development, and it was reported last week that Milan had opened talks.
They have now been able to confirm the deal, which will run until the end of the 2020/21 season as per AC Milan’s website.
Dalot will wear the number five shirt at San Siro.
A graduate of the Porto youth academy, the Portuguese broke into the first-team aged just 18 in 2018.
He’d made just eight senior appearances for the club when United moved to snap him up and showed some promise in his debut season in England.
Dalot failed to build up on the promise and finds himself surplus to requirements at the moment. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping the loan move will be beneficial for the player’s development.
