The Norwegian playmaker is pushing for a move elsewhere with his chances at Santiago Bernabeu largely limited this season.
Arsenal have reached an agreement with Real Madrid to secure the services of Martin Odegaard, according to The Times.
Odegaard is set to join Arsenal on loan until the end of the season with no option to make the transfer permanent included in the deal. The north London side have agreed to pay all of the player’s £38,000-a-week wages in addition to the £1.8 million loan fee.
It is understood that the player made it clear he wanted an exit from Real Madrid in search of consistent playing time after going out of favor under Zinedine Zidane. He has been limited to just nine games across all competitions this season and is yet to stay on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.
Real Sociedad wanted to re-sign the 22-year-old, who shone during his one-year loan stay at Anoeta Stadium in 2019-20, while a handful of Premier League clubs also registered interest.
A personal phone call from Mikel Arteta was enough for him to make up his mind on moving to the Emirates.
The Norwegian playmaker could be a valuable addition to Arteta’s squad with the manager understood to be looking for a creative outlet in the middle of the park.
Odegaard is set to undergo his medical on Monday with an official announcement from Arsenal expected thereafter.
