Jan Oblak wants a repeat of Atletico Madrid’s comprehensive victory over Liverpool and wants to knockout the soon to be new Champions League winners.
Atletico Madrid harbored Champions League ambitions. They had defeated reigning champions Liverpool and are one of the most disciplined sides across Europe.
However, their best-laid plans were undone by a certain Julian Nagelsmann. RB Leipzig managed to overcome Los Rojiblancos’ stiff resistance and knocked them out.
Diego Simeone received a lot of criticism for their ousting. He has been supported by the club’s hierarchy. But what armchair fans forget is the difficulty of the task that got them this far.
Jan Oblak is part of the dressing room and well versed with the difficulties of the competition. He understands the headache of being knocked out and took it all in stride.
In a post reflecting on the 2019/20 season, the towering 27-year-old custodian called it a complicated campaign. However, Oblak highlighted their performance at Anfield and hoped that more of them will come in the coming season.
“An intense and complicated season,” Oblak posted on Instagram.
“We are working to qualify for the Champions League once again and enjoy games like Anfield, although in the end we could not fulfill our ambitions and give you some joy.
“Now it’s time to rest and reflect.
“A hug to all of you.”
