Steven Nzonzi has been amazed by Eduardo Camavinga’s performance against Montpellier on Saturday.

After making his senior breakthrough in April 2019, Camavinga has quickly become one of the most exciting talents in France’s top-flight.

The tenacious box-to-box midfielder has moved on from making 25 Ligue 1 appearances in 2019/20 to featuring in both of Rennes’ league fixtures this term.

Rennes enjoyed a decent start to the Ligue 1 season so far.

After playing out a 1-1 away draw with Lille on the opening matchday, Les Rennais booked a 2-1 home win over Montpellier on Saturady.

One of Europe’s most sought-after properties, Eduardo Camavinga, was one of the architects of that victory.

The teenage midfielder danced past Montpellier’s lines to hammer home a low effort and put his side two goals up following Damien Le Tallec’s own-goal.

Although Gaetan Laborde pulled one back for the visitors a minute into the stoppage time, Camavinga’s remarkable solo action eventually made all the difference.

Steven Nzonzi has been left stunned by what he saw from the 17-year-old on Saturday afternoon.

During the post-match interview, the 31-year-old midfielder has heaped praise on his team’s performance.

“We created a lot of chances. We could have killed the game before. We put ourselves in a bit of danger at the end, but apart from their goal, I think we were serious from start to finish,” he told the club’s website.

“During the preparation, we worked very well physically and tactically. There is room for improvement, and we must continue to work well.

“The recruits have integrated well. It feels like they’ve been in the team for a long time. They are smart and attentive players.”

But, Nzonzi has singled out one name as he reflects on the Roazhon Park showings.

“Cama [Eduardo Camavinga] put in a great goal.

“He knows how to make the difference individually. He brings in defensively and offensively; he is complete. There will be two of us in the French team; it’s good for him. It will be a first.”

Nzonzi’s recognition comes on the back of Cavaminga being handed Didier Deschamps’ call-up for the France national team.

The teenage sensation will be part of the squad to take on Sweden and Croatia in the upcoming Nations League ties.
