The Reds suffered another shocking defeat just when they seemed ready to turn their campaign around.
Jurgen Klopp has revealed Thiago Alcantara and Darwin Nunez have missed Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest with fitness issues.
Liverpool came into the game on the back of a crucial win over West Ham in mid-week. However, Taiwo Awoniyi’s second-half goal was enough to beat Klopp’s injury-riddled side.
Speaking before the match, Klopp revealed why Thiago and Nunez missed the game.
Speaking to BT Sport, he said: “For Darwin the game comes too early, he still feels the intensity of the game muscle-wise so there was no chance he could play today. Maybe he could play tomorrow or on Monday but not today.
“And Thiago got a bad ear infection overnight. The decision was made this morning at 5:15. That’s how it is sometimes and that’s the reason for that.”
Without Thiago, Klopp’s side play without a key figure in midfield. The Spaniard has been consistently dealing with injury problems ever since his move from Bayern Munich in 2020.
Nunez, on the other hand, is slowly finding his best form as he bounces back from a difficult start to the new season. The Uruguayan scored his side’s only goal in their victory over West Ham.
Let’s see if the Reds would have him back in the lineup for their upcoming Champions League game against Ajax on Wednesday.
