United returned to winning ways with a dominant display at City Ground.

Manchester United defeated Nottingham Forest 3-0 in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-finals on Wednesday. The Red Devils made a huge step toward reaching the tournament’s final.

A needed bounce-back!

Man Utd came into the game on the back of their 3-2 defeat against Arsenal on Sunday. Having lost the crucial league game, some United fans feared Erik ten Hag’s side could lose their motivation ahead of the EFL Cup game.

But the Red Devils found a flying start to the game. In the sixth minute, Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for Man Utd with an incredible solo effort.

Forest thought they had an equalizer later on in the first period, but VAR dismissed the goal. United then re-established their dominance over the possession and doubled their lead just before half-time.

Wought Weghorst converted the rebound of a blocked shot from Antony to score his first goal for the Red Devils.

Ten Hag made three changes before the hour mark, effectively slowing down the rhythm of the game. But Man Utd still remained in charge of the game.

Following a few half-chances in the final ten minutes, Burno Fernandes made it 3-0 for United with a precise low shot.

Ten Hag’s side will go into the second leg with a comfortable lead over their opponents. Let’s see if the Dutchman would make more changes to his squad for the next week’s match.
