The Blaugrana have a mountain to climb in the second-leg clash with the Parisians, but they are no strangers to memorable fightbacks.
Ronald Koeman is feeling optimistic about FC Barcelona’s chances of a comeback against Paris Saint-Germain but insists his team needs a “complete performance” in order to do so.
Barcelona were thoroughly beaten when PSG traveled to Camp Nou for the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 tie.
Lionel Messi had put the hosts on the front foot a few minutes before the half-hour mark but Kylian Mbappe’s hat-trick and Moise Kean’s strike forced a heavy 4-1 defeat onto them.
The Catalan giants, however, go into Wednesday’s match fresh from overturning a 2-0 loss in the first leg and beating Sevilla 3-0 in the second leg to progress to the Copa del Rey finals.
They can also recall their famous ‘Remontada’ of 2017, when they kicked their upcoming opponents out of the competition with a 6-1 aggregate scoreline after trailing 4-0 in the quarter-finals first leg, for a quick confidence boost.
“They were very clinical in the first game and we have to be in this one. We’re a team that can always create chances. If we are clinical, nothing is impossible,” said Koeman, as per Marca.
“I think we had good moments in the first leg. Then, the Sevilla win in the Copa del Rey has given us confidence, although we can’t compare the Sevilla comeback to this attempt.
“PSG are strong and aspiring to win the Champions League. We’ll need a complete performance to be able to come back.”
