Gerard Deulofeu respects Lionel Messi’s talents, but insisted that the player that is truly the greatest in Barcelona’s history is Ronaldinho.
Deulofeu, like Messi, came through the Barcelona youth system and partnered the Argentine on 17 occasions for the first team.
A lack of regular opportunities at Camp Nou, however, prompted the winger to leave on several occasions before leaving for the last time in 2018 by joining Watford in the Premier League. He has recently signed up for Udinese in the Serie A.
But while Deulofeu has nothing but respect for Messi, he rates the 33-year-old’s former teammate Ronaldinho as his pick for the club’s greatest player.
“For me, Ronaldinho is the best player ever,” said the 26-year-old as quoted on Marca.
“I met him. I went to watch a game at the Camp Nou and he was sitting next to me. It was a wonderful experience.
On Messi, Deulofeu added: “Messi is incredible too, I like him very much.
“I played with him for six months and he is a nice person, a great player. The whole world knows about Messi”
