AS Monaco are rounding up players that Niko Kovac has played before but Marcelo Brozovic is not on the list of targets.

Marcelo Brozovic is the man who kept Inter Milan’s midfield ticking. While Antonio Conte was the tactical mastermind, it was the Croatian who ensured his ideas got executed on the pitch.

However, with Barella returning from injury and Nainggolan also staying put at the San Siro, Brozovic’s playing time is under threat.

The midfielder has been linked with a move to AS Monaco and reunite with former Croatia manager Niko Kovac.

Monaco wants to challenge for UEFA Champions Legaue places and Kovac wants reliable heads. However, Brozovic is not one of those players.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich manager hailed the player and reminisced about their shared history. But equivocally denied any approach the principality club want to make for him.

“I think it’s very easy to be linked with a player I have already coached in the past,” Football Italia quoted the tactician.

“I had Brozovic in the Croatia Under-21 squad. He’s an excellent player, plays for a great team in Italy like Inter and is a national player.

“But honestly, he’s not a player for us. We are following other leads at the moment.”

Monaco have four points from their two Ligue 1 outings. They take on the challenge of Nantes on Matchday 3.
