The Super Eagles star suffered an untimely injury against Rennes on Thursday.
Nigeria are preparing to face Ghana in a two-legged World Cup qualifying tie. The Super Eagles have recently published their squad for the upcoming battle, with midfield star Wilfred Ndidi also included in their list.
However, the Leicester City ace will not be able to play for Nigeria in the upcoming tie due to injury. Ndidi limped off the pitch in the 60th minute of his side’s Europa League clash against Rennes in the UEFA Conference League.
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed the Super Eagles star has picked up ligament damage in his knee.
“Wilfred Ndidi, we just have to assess. He picked up an injury that might keep him out for a few weeks, which is a shame…and Marc Albrighton had to come off,” Rodgers said (via Leicestershire Live).
“Just as it looks like we’re getting players back… We’ve got a really good squad when they’re all available. It looks like we’ll get some back, but one or two might be out. We’ll have to see once the scans turn up later.”
Another Leicester City star Ademola Lookman has received his first national team call-up ahead of the crunch Ghana clash. Based on his recent performances, the Nigeria star might get a chance to start for the Foxes against Brentford on Sunday.
